Id doesn't actually need to start with 'IW_'
To be honest I'd recommend against using it to avoid conflicts with internal IntraWeb stuff which starts with IW_, unless you need it.
The point with IW is: Every hidden field starting with IW_ is automatically submitted to the server. If you need it to be submitted automatically and it is not related to any input field, you can use it, sure.
However, if you have an input HTML field you can give it any name you want and create an input field with the same name. The HTML input needs to have the same name attribute as well. Any input field which has an associated hidden field, the value of that input will also be submitted automatically.
